Iaido Painting Day
On Sunday, June 25, students of Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno-Crandall iaido came together to clean and paint a large segment of the main training hall's basement. Part of the traditional philosophy of the martial arts includes a responsibility of the students to care for their school. This is especially significant in iaido. While there is an annual cleaning day for the American Martial Arts Institute, this was a separate day which was set aside to take care of this often unseen part of the school where important iaido equipment is stored. Every single student of iaido participated, some coming in on the days prior to help prepare the surfaces for painting by scrapping and cleaning. Students drove in from as far as New Hampshire to take care of this important aspect of tradition.
