Utica Zoo Martial Arts Demo
On August 29, 2016, the American Martial Arts Institute presented a demonstration at the Utica Zoo's community night. To give back to the community, the Utica Zoo opened the zoo with free admission after 5 pm and stayed open late, and they invited our school to demonstrate American Eagle Style, Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno-Crandall Iaido, and the American Cane System.
Students performed katas, sparring, board breaking, and more. Students from the American Cane System performed katas and fundamental blocks and strikes with the cane. Master Stalloch entertained the large crowd with some cane self-defense techniques. Iaido students demonstrated katas, batto-do (cutting with a sharpened sword through reeds), and drawing and sheathing exercises. Some of the instructors performed self-defense, meditation demonstrations, katas, board breaking and more. This included power breaks through stacks of concrete, walking barefoot on broken glass, and laying bare-back on a bed of nails.
At the end of the demonstration, Grandmaster Crandall presented Miss Kyleigh Hoyle with her black top, accepting her into the school's staff.
