There are many schools and styles in the world that have something to offer to the history of the martial arts. The reason they are not known and their knowledge is unused is because these schools do not venture beyond their borders of familiarity or security. To remain isolated is to see a very small part of the world from a limited perspective. The philosophy of the martial arts was to transcend styles, countries, races, and sexes. It is a philosophy of giving and completing the circle of life and knowldge from person to person and generation to generation. With this in mind, the American Martial Arts Institute and its instructors have sought to share with the world in as many ways as possible and in so doing have had the opportunity to learn from many leaders and schools of the martial art. The following are some of the seminars and guest speakers that the American Martial Arts Institute has hosted for its students and instructors over the years: 1999 Grand Master Dux taught a self-defense and knife retention seminar for black belts and brown belts of the American Martial Arts Institute. 2000 Grand Master Frank Dux Internationally Recognized Second Degree Testing An internationally recognized testing for second degree black belt was held at the American Martial Arts Institute. Upon the request of Grand Master Frank Dux two of his top black belts were tested. Grand Master Dux was quoted as saying he brought his two students from California to New York to be tested by Grand Master Crandall and his school because of its international reputation as the only fully documented American style and school in the world. 2002 Grand Master Mark Shuey, Sr. Known internationally as the Cane Master, Grand Master Shuey taught a seminar for the American Martial Arts Institute on yoga, strength training, and self-defense with a cane. 2005 Grand Master Demura taught a pair of seminars for the American Martial Arts Institute. The second seminar was for black belts only and covered a traditional empty-hand black belt kata from Grand Master Demura's lineage. 2007 Grandmaster Shuey presented two seminars in January, appeared on the Safety and Awareness Today Show, and was recognized as the founder and Grandmaster of the American Cane System style of martial arts. Grandmaster Shuey and Grandmaster Crandall oversaw the teaching of a seminar by Mr. Eric Stalloch and Mrs. Lynn Jessee.
