PINK BELT KATA

This is the first segment of the kata designed for the Pink Belt Program created by Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr. The American Martial Arts Institute is proud to partner with the American Cancer Society to bring this program to the students of the American Martial Arts Institute and the community. This video is a reference for students who have earned their pink belts and have been shown the kata, which will be performed during a demonstration at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Utica, NY on October 15, 2017.

The central concept of the kata is that through effective communication we can all come together to fight cancer and save lives. The martial arts is itself a form of communication that can bridge people of different backgrounds, countries, and cultures through a traditional philosophy expressed through physical action. Similarly, American Sign Language is a universal language which utilizes the motions of the body to express concepts and thoughts. This kata combines both to make a series of statements that support a traditional martial arts philosophy of having a positive impact in the community, of cultivating a strong mind and body, and supports the mission statement of the American Cancer Society. The kata will be presented in further segments in July and August.

FINAL SEGMENT OF THE PINK BELT KATA
This is the final segment of the pink belt kata which also includes the entire kata being demonstrated from start to finish. Grandmaster Crandall will be teaching and reviewing the entire kata again on our final pink belt class and presentation night on Tuesday, September 19 at 6:15 pm. More than 90 students have earned their pink belts, and we anticipate more than 100 will have earned their pink belts by September 15. The students who have earned their pink belts will be performing this kata as part of our demonstration at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Utica for the American Cancer Society on Sunday, October 15. This is when we will be taking our group picture which will be displayed on our training hall wall with a plaque to commemorate the event.

There is a free pink belt program informational packet available to companies, agencies, and teams who are interested in getting involved. Students earn their pink belts and certificates by taking written exams to become more knowledgeable or by volunteering in the community.
