The Junior Rank Demonstration Team Perform
November 15, 2001

This patch is worn on the left upper arm of the uniform and identifies the individual as a Junior Rank Demonstration Team member.

The Junior Rank Demonstration Team members were asked to perform for the Remsen Elementary School in conjunction with a special program the school was having on the Japanese culture. Many of the extension tools used by the school's demonstration team have a Japanese history as farming tools before they were used in defense against the rogue samuri of Japan.

The performance done for the 200 elementary children included the history and some of the reasons Japanese farmers began using farm tools for defense. Each of our school's Demo Team members performed exceptionally well with their respective weapons. Although not seen in the picture, Nicole Stanulevich also performed a weapons form with the bo for the elementary school students. Besides the weapons and the techniques, a discussion of additional Japanese terms and philosophy was presented by Grand Master Crandall during the performance.

The team members pose after the performance. (Left to Right)Zachary Keep with the Sword, Ian Ramsey with Escrima Sticks, Nicole Stanulevich with the Naginata, Dan Boak with the Sais, Susan Dougherty with the Tonfa and Stephanie Chard with the Kamas.
