The Junior Rank Demonstration Team Performs July 18, 2000
This was for the Ilion Recreational Summer Program

Because of the rain, this performance was moved indoors. Grand Master Crandall opened the performance by explaining a little about the martial arts and the American Eagle Style to an enthusiastic room filled with boys and girls. For the last four years the American Martial Arts Demonstration Junior Rank Team has performed for the Ilion summer program and in doing so have met some great kids who truly show an interest in the martial arts. The team members that were able to be present at this performance were Travis Donley (wearing the red top which indicates that he is a member of the Junior Rank Black Belt Assisting Instructors program), Tim Quigley (junior rank black belt), Susanne Turner (a junior rank black belt), Nicole Stanulevich, Eric Legeer, Dan Boak, Zachary Keep, Nick Fabbio and Ian Ramsey. Two black belt instructors were present to assist in this demonstration. Mr. Mark Sanson from the Rochester location and Dr. Jamie Howard from the Albany location.

The first part of the presentation was a short example of what a martial arts class would look like with the whole team doing center punches, kicks and basic forms. This was under the direction of black belt instructor Dr. Jamie Howard. The first picture below is the group doing center kicks and the second picture is the group doing knife hand block.

The first picture below is of Zachary Keep demonstrating traditional Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno Iaido by performing Ten-no-kata. Then Nick Fabbio performing Yom Chi one, of the few single tonfa katas in the world. Other extension tools that were demonstrated included the Naginata, Bo and the escrima sticks.

A favorite part for the audience is the breaking segment of a martial arts demonstration. Below are pictures, first of Zachary Keep in the foreground and Eric Legeer doing shuto through two boards. The second picture is of Tim Quigley executing a palm heel break through three boards.

The next picture is of Susanne Turner doing an ax kick through two board and the picture next to her is Ian Ramsey doing a combination break made up of a center kick through one board followed by a hammer fist through two boards.

The action was concluded with Mr. Mark Sanson demonstrating the area of meditation for the audience by walking barefoot through a tray of broken glass.

In conclusion, questions were answered and students handed out Action Martial Arts Magazine trading cards to everyone. This trading card is one of the 54 in the year 2000 deck with Grand Master Crandall on it.

It was a fun time for everyone concluding with the demonstration team going back to the school location in Yorkville to have lunch and get ready for the afternoon performance at the Utica City Zoo.
